Dr. Manuel Baumann

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the group Simulation of Energy Systems at the Max Planck Institute in Magdeburg. My current work addresses power grid optimization within the BMBF project KONSENS. In 2018, I graduated with a PhD in applied mathematics from Delft University of Technology. My research focus is numerical linear algebra, numerical optimization and model-order reduction.

Research interests

From my point of view, the field Numerical Analysis is best described as the connecting scientific discipline between theoretical considerations of physical phenomena which arise in engineering science and their numerical solution on state-of-the-art hardware. In more detail, my scientific interest includes mostly partial differential equations and their fast numerical solution after discretization. This typically leads to large sparse linear systems of equations. The fast numerical solution of large-scale linear systems with iterative methods is a key problem in numerical linear algebra.
